A live 3D broadcast studio in Unreal Engine, wired into Twitch.
2020 set · Virtual Studio Tour From the 2020–2022 studio: the first (2020) set as published with the Virtual Studio Tour tech demo, with beige columns, a flame-panel desk, lighting rigs and wall screens carrying gameplay and webcam feeds.
Virtual Studio is a virtual 3D studio Mike created in Unreal Engine. It brings the host's webcam, video capture devices and Twitch interactions into one scene, with effects such as coins dropping when viewers donate and several ways to control it. PyroSoft's timeline lists it as an Unreal Engine 5 live virtual-production project in December 2024.
The public footage and images come from the 2020-2022 studio, which Mike built in Unreal Engine 4 and shared on the MikeTheTech YouTube channel. Its first set appeared in September 2020, and a fly-around demo of it, Virtual Studio Tour, was published on itch.io and on his website in December 2020. A new set followed in March 2021 (first shown 17 March, then toured in 'A Special Announcement and Studio Tour'), along with Twitch chat integration in the studio and, that spring, an interactive interview show. Audio-reactive effects arrived in October 2021, a tutorial on live cameras in a virtual studio in December 2021, and a March 2022 update brought Twitch chat back to the set.
Mike's 'Virtual Studio Live' project page features the March 2021 studio tour, and his 'Virtual Studio Tour' page carries the 2020 demo. No public footage of an Unreal Engine 5 build was found, so the pictures here show the 2020-2022 studio.
