Finally Opening My Steam Deck: The 512 GB Model Arrives

Getting the handheld out of its case after a long wait.

Article published November 4, 2026.

I have been waiting a long time for this one. People keep asking whether the accessories I cover work with the Steam Deck, and now I finally have a Deck of my own to try them with.

The case is part of the arrival

I open the shipping package, go through the charger and paperwork, then reach the handheld in its carrying case. This is the 512 GB version I received in August 2023.

I talk about trying its anti-glare screen and a screen protector later, but those comparisons are still plans at this point.

First time in my hands

I get the case open and lift out the Deck. It does not feel as large or as heavy as I had imagined while waiting for it.

That first reaction is most of this video: getting a look at the hardware and thinking about all the things I want to test next.

Charge it, then start testing

I do not complete a first boot or run a game in this recording. At the end, I say I will connect power and turn it on in another video.

The later QUUGE dock unboxing is one example of the accessory work that follows. This post is the starting point, with the Deck just out of its case.
