iPhone 17 Pro Max and Crave Cases: Trying the Fit and Hidden Magnets

Opening the phone, swapping the cases and checking attachment with a magnetic mount.

Article published November 3, 2026.

The first accessory I reach for after opening the iPhone 17 Pro Max is a case. Crave has several colors ready for me to try, and I want to see what the phone feels like inside them before spending time with the cameras.

The phone in this unboxing is the deep-blue, 512 GB version. I take it out, look through the cable and documentation, and turn it on while opening the cases.

The magnet test needs another accessory

The first Dual Guard case has a textured back and a combination of softer and harder-feeling layers. I fit the phone, look over the edges and notice that the magnetic ring is not prominently visible on the back.

So I pick up a magnetic camera mount and try the attachment. It holds the phone during that demonstration. I repeat the check with the green case, which gives the blue phone a different color contrast.

That is an attachment check with the accessory I have on the desk, not a wireless-charging measurement or a guarantee about every magnetic mount.

The Pro and Pro Max need their own sizes

I also show two Pro-size cases, including blue-and-black and berry colors, on a separate Pro. The similar design does not mean the two phone sizes use the same case.

I like the texture and the way the buttons and colors fit the look of the phones. There is no drop test, long-term wear result or camera comparison in this session.

The screen is the next part to cover

I leave the phone testing for later. For the screen-protector installation, my ESR UltraFit walkthrough shows the tray and pull-tab process on the Pro Max.

This first video is about opening the phone and trying the cases in my hands. Seeing the fit and the actual magnetic attachment is the useful starting point.
