Real capture · github.com · 13 Sep 2026 The public repository: five folders of data, patches, probes, recipes and tools, with a README, a NOTICE and an MIT licence.

Overview

Bourbon-OSS is the open, reusable layer of Bourbon 26, published on GitLab under the MIT licence. It carries the Smart Play recipes, community compatibility catalogs and small fixes Bourbon relies on, so anyone running Windows games through Wine on a Mac can use them in their own setup. The Bourbon 26 app itself, with its SwiftUI interface, orchestration and Smart Play launch engine, stays private.

Inside are managed recipes graded verified, recipe or known_failure, plus Smart Play launch plans; a mined catalog of Mac-safe per-game fixes; an Apple Gaming Wiki and Are We Anti-Cheat Yet snapshot; a DXVK-macOS Direct3D 9 patch for MoltenVK; a shim that fixes Steam's black window under Wine on Apple Silicon; and minimal Direct3D 11 probes for checking GPTK, DXVK and DXMT.

The Python tools use only the standard library: compat_sources.py looks up a community verdict offline and refreshes the data, mine_fixes.py re-mines protonfixes, Whisky and Lutris notes, and rom_metadata.py matches console ROMs to the Libretro database. The project thanks Wine, Whisky, CrossOver, Apple Gaming Wiki and the wider Windows-on-Mac community; publishing what Bourbon verifies is how PyroSoft gives back.

Questions

Is this Bourbon 26 for free?

No. Bourbon-OSS is data, patches and small tools, not the app. Bourbon 26's orchestration, SwiftUI interface and Smart Play launch engine stay private.

Can I use the catalogs in my own launcher?

Yes. Bourbon-authored data is MIT. For the community-derived files, keep the attribution described in NOTICE and respect each upstream project's terms.

What do I need to run the tools?

Python 3 and nothing else for the Python tools. Building the Steam shim and the probes needs mingw-w64.

Does anything here download games, ROMs or BIOS files?

No. rom_metadata.py fetches only catalogue text and cover images from the Libretro projects.
