X-Arcade Arcade2TV-XR: Matching Real Controls to a Virtual Cabinet
A GDC conversation about physical arcade hardware and customizable VR surroundings.
Article published November 4, 2026.
A virtual arcade is a lot more interesting when the controls under your hands match the cabinet you can see. That is what catches my attention at the X-Arcade and Pumpkin VR booth.
I talk with Matthew Chen about the Arcade2TV-XR and the connection between its physical hardware and the virtual machine around it. The display casting gives us a way to follow that idea from outside the headset.
Real controls, virtual surroundings
Matthew explains that the physical controls line up with the arcade machine inside the experience. The goal is to make it feel as though a cabinet is sitting right in front of you while keeping the surroundings changeable.
We also discuss things that can be added to the room, including a jukebox. That is part of the appeal: the room is not limited to the physical space around the controller.
The cabinet can have a different look
I ask about changing the cabinet artwork, and Matthew brings up design options. We look through different overlays and fan-made machine styles, including a Japanese-style cabinet.
That customization is the focus of this first look. The discussion of other game systems does not amount to a tested compatibility list, and I do not carry out a latency test or a full play session in this interview.
A booth visit, not a full home setup
We talk about availability and a show offer at GDC in March 2025. Those were details from the event, so I would check the current listing rather than treat the booth price as today's deal.
For me, the interesting bit is how a familiar arcade control surface can anchor a much more flexible virtual room. The original Amazon link from the description is below.
