NEWQ Portable SSD Touch: A Fingerprint Reader on a Small USB-C Drive

Opening the 512GB unit, its cables and the supplied pouch.

Article published November 4, 2026.

The fingerprint reader is what makes me curious about this NEWQ Portable SSD Touch. It puts a very different-looking front on a small USB-C drive, so I open the package and take a closer look.

A pouch and two cable options

Alongside the manual, I find a storage pouch and both USB-A-to-C and USB-C-to-C cables. That is useful to see in a package intended for different kinds of computers and phones.

I discuss the app instructions for setup and file management, including enrolling a fingerprint. I do not carry that setup out in this unboxing.

The finish takes a closer camera view

The unit has the reader, NEWQ logo and USB-C connection. I use my phone for a close view because the galaxy-like finish is difficult to show from the main camera angle.

It is a small detail, but one I like about the physical design. The supplied listing describes this as the 512GB model.

The security claims still need testing

I finish excited to try it rather than showing a completed backup or fingerprint unlock. This recording does not verify encryption, resistance to bypass, transfer speed or full usable capacity.

NEWQ sent the drive for the video. The original Amazon link is below if you want the exact listing and setup information.
