TIDRADIO TD-G100: The Beep Matters More Than the Range Claim

Two months with the cellular push-to-talk radios, the included accessories and the pause to learn before your first call.

Article published November 3, 2026.

A walkie-talkie that can reach someone across town sounded pretty cool. The interesting part of the TIDRADIO TD-G100 is how it does that: it uses a SIM card and a cellular connection instead of being a conventional radio-to-radio walkie-talkie.

I opened the two-pack, got the radios charged and came back after about two months of use. One small habit made a big difference: press the button, wait for the beep, then start talking.

Wait for the connection before speaking

If I pressed the button and immediately started a sentence, the beginning could get cut off. In my experience, the connection took a second or two to start.

That is easy to miss when you expect the behavior of an ordinary walkie-talkie. Waiting for the beep gave the call time to connect. I also discussed setting up a live connection rather than starting each message from scratch.

For me, that was the most useful thing to know before handing the second unit to someone else. Explain the delay first and you avoid a lot of repeated sentences.

What came in the two-pack

The box included two radios, two chargers, two USB-A-to-USB-C cables, lanyards and belt clips. I opened the back, installed the small SIM card and showed the battery compartment.

The battery was labeled 3,000 mAh. I did not run a timed battery test, so I would not turn the battery size or the description's runtime claim into a promise about how long your particular use will last.

Long range still depends on the network

The appeal was being able to talk between separate locations rather than staying within the range of two nearby handheld radios. I discussed direct calls and groups during the video.

The title's “unlimited range” is shorthand for that network-based approach. It does not mean the radios work without cellular coverage, an active service plan or the required connection. I did not verify worldwide roaming or every carrier's coverage.

Check the service terms with the hardware

At the time of the video, I described a year of included service and a $20 annual renewal. That was the offer I discussed then, not a current price or a guarantee that the same plan applies everywhere.

TIDRADIO sent these units for the video. After using them, I liked the idea of having a dedicated push-to-talk device without needing to keep the other person close by. Just teach everyone to wait for that beep. The original product link is below for checking the current model, coverage and service terms.
