Roku Voice Remote Pro: The Rechargeable Battery Is My First Surprise
Opening the remote I bought for my Roku TV and looking over its extra controls.
Article published November 4, 2026.
I buy this remote because I have been frustrated with pointing the basic one at my Roku TV. The Voice Remote Pro looks like a useful upgrade, but its battery arrangement catches me off guard when I open the box.
The cable is included
I take out the quick-start material, remote and micro-USB cable. Then I look for the familiar replaceable-battery compartment and realize this model is rechargeable.
I am used to keeping charged AA batteries ready to swap, so I talk through both sides of that change. I have not timed this remote’s battery life in the unboxing.
Two buttons I can make my own
The numbered buttons interest me because they can hold custom commands. I also wish more of the dedicated app buttons were programmable.
I discuss setting up those commands in another video; I do not program them during this one.
A few more things around the sides
I point out the headphone jack, listening switch, volume controls and pairing button. There is also a small speaker associated with finding the remote.
This is a look at the hardware I bought in August 2023, before a complete pairing, voice-command, headphone or remote-finder test. Other revisions may have a different arrangement.
