YARDCARE E400: The Boundary Wire Is Part of the Setup

The dock, controls and wire kit I unpacked before putting the mower on a lawn.

Article published November 3, 2026.

The YARDCARE E400 was one of the bigger boxes in this unboxing session. Before I even reached the mower, I found a small detail I liked: a measuring guide printed into the cardboard that could be cut out for setup.

The bigger difference from some other robot mowers I had looked at was the boundary wire. This session was a look at that hardware, not a lawn-cutting test.

The dock and mower controls

I unpacked the charging base and looked at its alignment pieces and contacts. Then I moved to the mower, with its large rear wheels, smaller front wheels, height adjustment and prominent Stop button.

I also pointed out the bumper and the app QR code. Those are things I could identify during the unboxing, rather than collision-response or app-control tests I had completed.

This setup uses a perimeter wire

The kit included wire and stakes for defining the intended mowing area. That is a different setup task from relying on camera mapping or satellite positioning, and I was interested in seeing how it would work in my yard.

I had not laid the wire, run the mower along it or tested a boundary fault. My enthusiasm for the idea should not be read as proof that the mower cannot leave its intended area under any circumstances.

The sharp parts deserve attention before the first run

During the unboxing I caught myself on an exposed blade while handling the bagged mower. I mentioned the cut on camera because it was an unwelcome reminder to pay attention to the underside before moving it around.

The setup and handling instructions matter from the moment the box is opened, rather than only when the mower starts cutting.

What comes after the unboxing

I showed the power-supply pieces and discussed the price displayed at the time. That historical price is not a current quote.

The real lawn session was still to come: putting the base and wire in place, checking the app and seeing the cut. This video gives a look at the E400 and its included parts without claiming those later tests had already happened.
