# FriendlyIP

> Turn IPv4 addresses into six-character codes you can read aloud.

FriendlyIP turns an IPv4 address into a six-character code you can read aloud, type on a TV remote or show on a setup screen: 42.13.37.67 becomes 3BqaAL. The code is the address itself, encoded with a human-safe Base57 alphabet that leaves out easily confused characters, so it decodes anywhere, offline, with no lookup table. It's made for the moments where addresses get fumbled, like a support call or a LAN party. Around the IPv4 converter sit three beta tools: QR codes made locally in your browser, temporary FriendlyPINs for IPv4 or IPv6 addresses that expire after 5 minutes to an hour (up to five active at once per address), and short online lookup codes for long IPv6 addresses. Developers can call the hosted JSON API or bundle the small friendly-ip.js module. FriendlyIP is free for indie apps, games, tools and any product earning under $100,000 a year; bigger commercial products need a licence from PyroSoft, and teams that need their own PIN pool can add a dedicated FriendlyPIN endpoint.

Price: Free.

## Questions

### What is a FriendlyIP code?

A six-character code that encodes an IPv4 address with an unambiguous alphabet, so you can read it over the phone instead of dictating twelve digits and three dots.

### Are codes reversible?

Yes. Encoding is deterministic and decoding recovers the exact address. The same IP always produces the same code, and no server is needed to decode it.

### Does it work offline?

Yes. IPv4 encoding is pure math, and the free API can run offline inside your own tools. (The IPv6 lookup codes and FriendlyPINs are online beta services.)

### Is FriendlyIP free?

Yes. The web tool and the API are free, including for indie developers. Products selling over $100,000 a year need a commercial licence, and teams that want their own FriendlyPIN endpoint can buy one as an add-on.

### Does it work on a LAN with no internet?

Yes. Codes are deterministic and decoding needs no server round-trip, so it works even when the game room's internet doesn't, for private LAN addresses and public ones alike.

### Can my team get its own FriendlyPIN endpoint?

Yes, as a paid add-on from PyroSoft: a dedicated endpoint under your own URL slug, your choice of default PIN length, PINs that stay valid from 5 minutes up to 7 days, and a PIN pool of your own. The public API stays free for indie use.
