I already liked using the OutIn Nano, so I was interested in what OutIn had changed for the smaller Mino. The useful question for a portable espresso machine is pretty simple: can I take it out of the bag, make a coffee and enjoy the result?

In this video, I worked through the whole first setup, from grinding the beans to tasting the coffee. OutIn provided the machine for the video.

## A smaller shape and a more secure base

With the Mino next to the Nano, the width looked similar, but the Mino was shorter. I also liked the change to the bottom assembly: it twists into place rather than simply pulling away.

The package included a travel bag, a USB-C cable and the parts for preparing the coffee. I used the ground-coffee holder for this demonstration. Rather than guessing a grind setting, I looked at the guide included with the machine and adjusted the OutIn grinder I was using.

## Working through the coffee preparation

I ground the beans, filled the included measuring scoop and used the funnel to help get the grounds into the holder. In the video, I described the scoop as the 12 g measure supplied for that setup. I then pressed the grounds down, closed the holder and fitted it into the machine.

That preparation is a useful part of the walkthrough. There are several small pieces, and it helps to see which one I used for the grounds and how it all went back together.

## The stand is a separate, useful extra

I also assembled OutIn's universal coffee stand. The base has rubber feet and a cork surface, and the height adjusts by turning the upright. That let me move from a shorter cup to the taller cup I wanted to use.

For a machine that can travel, I like having a place to leave it at home, too. I can set it into the stand over a cup, then lift it out when I want to pack it away. The stand is a separate accessory shown in the video, rather than something to assume is included with every machine purchase.

## Heating and brewing from room-temperature water

I filled the reservoir to its marked line with bottled water and started the heating cycle. The indicator pulsed while it worked, speeding up as it got closer to being ready. Once the water was heated, the machine started dispensing the coffee.

I also discussed the extraction-only option for already-hot water. The actual demonstration used room-temperature water and the machine's heating process.

After the first pass, I added more water and ran a second pass through the same grounds because I wanted to dilute the drink a little. That is different from preparing a second fresh dose of coffee. The top was hot when I lifted it, which is apparent in the walkthrough.

## The first taste

The Mino arrived with enough charge for the demonstration, so I had not plugged it in before making the drink. That shows what happened with this unit out of the box; it is not a battery-capacity test or a promise about a particular number of cups.

I added creamer and flavoring before tasting it. My reaction was that it was strong and delicious. I had a similar experience with the Nano, and the Mino gave me that familiar workflow in a shorter package.

The video includes the slower parts as well as the finished coffee: opening the accessories, preparing the grounds, assembling the stand and waiting for the water to heat. If you want to see what the first setup actually involves, that is the useful part of following it from start to finish.
