FreeSpark starts with a practical idea: run an open language model on the GPU in your browser, without requiring an inference account or charging for each message. Then give that model useful ways to work with writing, calculations, documents and a folder you choose.

The September 9 review concentrated on reliability before adding another long feature list. Arithmetic moved to a parser, ordinary writing took a shorter route, and tools stopped running simply because the model happened to mention them in its reasoning.

The real-model checks showed why those changes mattered. A small model could load successfully and still fail a normal writing request. The recorded 0.5B probe returned closing markup, while the 1.5B model produced coherent writing but missed the requested sentence count. Loading a model and getting dependable answers are different milestones.

Persistence and recovery received attention too. Failed saves became visible, partial stopped text was retained, and failed or replaced workers were cleaned up more carefully. Generated images needed durable data rather than temporary browser URLs that would disappear later.

Local inference also needed a clear explanation. Model downloads can be large, and web research uses an online service. The language model running on your device doesn't make every tool offline. The default settings changed during the following work, so the early opt-in state shouldn't be mistaken for the final configuration.

What I like about this foundation is that it keeps the product useful without pretending a small model can do everything. We can let code handle exact arithmetic, show when storage fails and qualify actual answers, then use the model where its ability to write and reason is helpful.
