If a game already has a working Mac version, we should be able to use it. That was one of the useful changes in Bourbon 26.7.31.1: recognizing a supported 64-bit macOS build and sending it down the native path, while keeping Wine available for Windows software.

The release notes record Subnautica, Stardew Valley and Tangle Tower moving to that route. Stardew is a good example of why the distinction matters. Its Windows route had been marked unsupported in this work, while its Mac build worked. Picking the right version solved a different problem from tuning another graphics setting. Old 32-bit Mac builds were excluded because current macOS can't run them.

For games that still need Windows translation, Smart Play gained more specific choices. A profile could pin a Wine build and synchronization mode for one game. That means one title's requirement doesn't have to become the setting for your whole library. Bottle Shelf also received a more focused presentation, with a curated group of profiles instead of a wall of options.

There was quite a bit of everyday cleanup around that. Bourbon waited for installations, handled cloud-save prompts more clearly, and stopped treating a window that immediately disappeared as a successful launch. Stop All was corrected for native Mac games, and save synchronization reached the shared vault from the different bottles.

What I like about this stage is that the user-facing goal stayed simple: choose a game and get to it. Underneath, Bourbon was learning to respect the differences between native games, Windows runtimes and individual title requirements. The examples above describe the recorded July work; they aren't a blanket compatibility promise for every game.
